Games and Translation Training at ZOE

Our day began with a wonderful devotional given by Les, one of the leaders at ZOE, about the importance of protecting the things God hides for (not from) us. He touched on being thankful for small things, such as a penny you find on the ground or the shirt on your back, and how this is a simple antidote for pride. After a quick ride to ZOE, we played multiple games with the families staying there. Three of them were run by the STM (short for Short Term Missionaries, which is our team from the U.S.), and two were run by the staff at ZOE. Following this was a time in which families and our team could gather together in conversation and games! During this time, we also ate a chicken and salad lunch together and then headed to an air-conditioned room for a two language learning sessions. Each STM member was partnered with a child from the home, and the two taught each other their respective languages! We played charades as well to further our understanding and relationships. We did this with two different groups at two different times and were finished by about 12:40 in the afternoon! We then took another ride to a restaurant called Rock N’ River, where we played games and hung out with the “ZLT” students (short for ZOE Leadership Training, a two-year Bible college for those who want to know Christ deeper). This was a great opportunity to get to know them better. While there, it began to pour, and a few friends dove into the river, resulting in a fun ride home! Overall, the day was very successful and meaningful, with many chances to connect with Christ-followers from around the world.

Personal Reflection

This day was filled with many amazing moments. One of the most meaningful for me was starting the day with such an encouraging message from Les! He said, “If your dreams seem possible without God, they aren’t big enough.” This was not only very challenging but also very reflective. God has such a big plan for each and every one of us; we cannot put a cap on what He can do. This really pushes me to trust Him more, which can be incredibly scary. Putting yourself out there with many people telling you it’s unrealistic or impossible can put you down, but God is bigger than their words and thoughts. Les also touched on another important point: our God is bigger than any obstacle we face, and in all situations, we should turn to Him.

Today was also filled with deep fellowship. From small car rides to our time at Rock N’ River, I felt a deeper connection with the many people on this trip. At the end of the dinner, it was pouring rain, and a few kids jumped into the river. It was such a joyous moment to see the happiness coming out of each person in the water, even though there was a language barrier. The Lord unites each and every one of us here, and it’s a blessing to meet so many brothers and sisters in Christ. I can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do!

P.S. This was our last day doing ministry at ZOE’s Children’s Home, which means we will be able to post a LOT more photos starting tomorrow! Here are some of us hanging out with the ZLT students at Rock N’ River.
